The Elbo Room in Fort Lauderdale claims to be the first commercial establishment ever to go live with cameras. Dirty Harry’s and Sloppy Joes has them in Key West, but the Elbo Room has been livestreaming its boozy, rowdy regulars since 1996 - way before social media even existed. There’s cameras all over the place. The Beach Cam, The Patio Cam, The Band Cam and The Bar Cam...and you can watch it all for free (I think it’s a couple of bucks if ya want the audio). And evidently fans from all over the world are glued to it. It’s a little bit Bravo, a little bit The Truman Show...a little bit Cheers, but drunker... I don’t know if it’s us just being nosy at home. Or maybe like me: living vicariously through others because I’m going to bed at 9!
