Metro Express, Miami-Dade County’s First Bus Rapid Transit Service Opens Next Week

Starting Wednesday, October 22, Miami has a new ride.

Miami-Dade County will launch Metro Express, the County’s first-ever Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system and the longest all-electric BRT service in the nation. Designed to transform how thousands of Miami-Dade residents move along the busy US-1 corridor, Metro Express offers South Dade commuters access to a brand-new, comfortable and reliable transit connection from Florida City to Dadeland South Metrorail Station.

Stretching 20 miles along US-1 down to Florida City, Metro Express will run on a dedicated lane protected by gate arms and prioritized during rush hour, connecting South Dade residents to key destinations including job centers, schools, parks, shopping areas, and other transit services. This milestone is an important step forward in Miami-Dade County’s efforts to expand access to safe, reliable, more efficient public transportation – connecting our residents to additional opportunities throughout our community.

At the heart of the new Metro Express service are 14 new signature BRT stations, which offer amenities such as air-conditioned waiting areas to provide comfort and protection from the elements, a modern design with ample shade, level boarding, bike friendly transportation and storage, water fountains, free Wi-Fi, and charging stations for mobile devices. All amenities combined, plus the ability to pay before you board, deliver a new, enhanced experience for Metro Express passengers.
