Kayem Foods Inc. is voluntarily recalling approximately 1,584,361 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products due to potential “temperature abuse” during storage. A cooling system malfunction at one of the company’s warehouses caused storage temperatures to deviate from safe limits, triggering the nationwide recall.
Key Details of the Recall
- Affected Products: Ready-to-eat hot dogs, bacon, deli meats, sausages, ham, brisket, and cocktail franks.
- Brand Names: Products were sold under multiple brands including Kayem, Al Fresco, McKenzie, Triple M, Deutschmacher, Jordan’s, Specialty Products, Essem, and Winnisimmet.
- Production Dates: The recalled items were manufactured between March 31, 2026, and October 7, 2026.
- Inspection Marks: Affected packages will feature the establishment numbers “EST. M/P 7839,” “EST. P 20935A,” or “EST. M 9520” inside the USDA mark of inspection
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) classified this as a Class I recall, its highest risk category, indicating a reasonable probability that consumption could lead to serious health issues. However, there have been no confirmed reports of illness linked to these items. Consumers are advised to check their refrigerators and freezers and either throw the affected items away or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
