Two Miami men say they are going to Space, you may think the nightclub. Nope, these guys are going to OUTER SPACE!
NASA announced that two astronauts with Miami ties, Frank Rubio and Andre Douglas, will serve as mission specialists on the crew for the upcoming Artemis III mission. The mission is a critical flight aimed at practicing complex docking procedures with commercial lunar landers.
The Miami Astronauts
- Frank Rubio: A U.S. Army Colonel, flight surgeon, and Miami-Dade County native, Rubio attended Miami Sunset Senior High School. He previously broke the American record for the longest single spaceflight, spending 371 days in orbit.
- Andre Douglas: Born in Miami, Douglas is a U.S. Coast Guard Reserve officer and systems engineer. Artemis III will be his first spaceflight, having previously served as a backup crew member for the Artemis II mission.
Mission Details
Alongside Commander Randy Bresnik and Pilot Luca Parmitano, the crew will orbit Earth to test crucial docking maneuvers with landers being developed by SpaceX and Blue Origin, preparing the infrastructure for future missions to the lunar surface.
