There are dozens of banana trees growing in a gravel lot right in the middle of downtown Fort Lauderdale. Turns out the developer who owns the $33-million property applied to have it classified as agricultural land -- which can mean a nice tax break. Broward said no. The developer is appealing. So yes, apparently downtown Fort Lauderdale has...a banana farm.
