If you’re heading to the beach, you may want to check before you dive in. The Florida Department of Health has issued a no-swim advisory for three Miami-Dade beaches after elevated levels of Enterococccus bacteria -- an indicator of possible fecal contamination. The advisory affects North Shore Ocean Terrace near 73rd Street, Bark Beach near 79th Street, and Golden Beach near the Broward County line. Officials say stay out of the water until follow-up tests show bacteria levels are back to normal.
Help is on the way for Miami-Dade’s overcrowded animal shelters. The County is building a new 25,000-square-foot shelter near Homestead on Harriet Tubman Highway. It’ll ease the burden on the Doral shelter and make it easier for South Dade residents to adopt pets closer to home. The opening is still a couple of years away, but the project is offically moving forward.
Forever stamps have gone up in price. They are now 82 cents each. Perhaps to soften the blow, the USPS released fun new Barbie commemorative Forever Stamps.
