Six-year-old Joe (ID 696134) has been waiting a long time for a second chance—first spending eight months at another shelter, and now continuing his wait at the Humane Society of Broward County. Through it all, he has remained patient and hopeful that someone will finally notice him. Joe isn’t the type to bark or jump for attention. He’s quiet and calm, often sitting silently in his kennel, watching people pass by. He doesn’t demand to be seen, but when you stop and spend time with him, you feel like you’ve known him forever.
He’s a gentle, easygoing dog who enjoys simple pleasures—walks around the neighborhood, belly rubs, a tasty treat, and the comfort of a companion nearby. Joe is housetrained, friendly with children, and gets along well with other dogs. He doesn’t need constant entertainment; he’s just happy being close, whether it’s exploring the yard or relaxing beside you on the couch.
Despite his good manners and kind nature, Joe continues to be overlooked, and it’s hard to understand why. He’s a calm, loyal companion who’s ready to settle into a loving home. He’s not flashy or loud—he’s just steady, affectionate, and quietly waiting for the right person to find him. If you’d like to meet Joe, please start by submitting an application at www.humanebroward.com, then come visit him in person. The Humane Society of Broward County is open seven days a week at 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale. Adoptions begin at 11 a.m. For questions, call 954-989-3977.

Adoption Ambassador: If you can provide a temporary home for a large-breed dog, become an Adoption Ambassador for the Humane Society of Broward County. Ambassadors help market the pet through your network of friends and associates, while giving the pet a vacation from the shelter environment. Sometimes a different setting is all that is needed to help our furry friends find their forever home.
Spay/Neuter Services:
Vaccine Clinic: Is open Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 5:30 PM (close daily from 11:40 – 1:00 for lunch). This is a walk-in service, and you may experience a wait of up to an hour. All cats must be in carriers and dogs on a leash at all times. If you have a retractable leash, please keep it short.
Animal Admissions: The Admissions Department is open by appointment only. Please call 954-266-6873 and allow 48 hours for a call back. Closed on major holidays.
